Community & International Service
Our club is proud to be serving the local Davis community since 2007 through service. We work with organizations such as Tree Davis, Davis Meals On Wheels, Davis Rotary clubs, Davis Farmer’s Market, Habitat for Humanity, Operation Christmas Child, and many more in order to better our local community. You can find our members planting trees, feeding the homeless, or even working on the gardens at central park.
But we are also proud that our club’s influence through service reaches as far as Brazil and India through international projects such as Baby Packs and PolioPlus. We would like to talk a little bit about these two international projects, just so you have a better grasp of the work we do.
Baby Packs spawned out of a growing need of baby essentials in rural Brazilian villages. Young mothers did not have basic needs for their babies, such as diaper rash medicine, baby tylenol, baby formula, as well as other items. With the help of our project contact, Jake Hosier, we were able to start this project in 2008 by putting together baby essential kits (Baby Packs) and deliver them to the young mothers in rural Brazil. Our club is proud to have founded this project and to be helping make a difference in Brazil.
PoliosPlus is an international effort to eradicate polio from the world. How many people can actually say that they personally participated in the eradication of a disease from the face of the Earth? We can and so can you by participating in PolioPlus. The polio disease still exists in four countries in the world: Pakistan, Afghistan, India, and Nigeria. Rotary International, Rotaract, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations have been working closely together over the past decade to eradicate polio from the world. It costs less than a dollar to immunize a child from the polio virus–a deadly disease that robs children of their mobility and livelihood for the rest of their lives–can you spare a dollar?
